Gloucestershire U17 Squash, South West League
With the depth of good squash players in this age group, the Gloucestershire Junior Squash Association
entered two Teams (A & B Squads) in the South West Squash League. Other counties taking part
were Somerset, Devon, Cornwall & Dorset. With each county having to play each other and with Dorset
also having an A & B squad there were 5 matches to be played. In this age group, four boys and one
girl make up the match team.
Matches were played at Wycliffe College, Stroud; Somerset Squash Club and the final match was played at
Newton Abbott Squash Club in Devon. There was still all to play for on the final day and Gloucestershire A eventually
came top of the league and Gloucestershire B a very credible third place.
The team are grateful to Wycliffe College, which is a renowned centre of excellence for squash, where the
boys have been trained throughout the season by Coach Mike Edwards.
Competing on the final day in Newton Abbot were, A Squad: Josh Saysell, Sam Cantle, Mike Willis,
Guy Howes and Sian Gould. B squad: Anthony Graham, Nick Reeder, Alex Morris, Mitch Crawford, Amish Bhadesia & Jade Meadows. The team have also been supported throughout the year by Jon Weir, Chris Palmer
& Laura Pinkney.
All of the above players either play for their school or play at local clubs throughout the county
who help to improve the squash skills to the high standards which Gloucestershire is renowned for.
It is through these local clubs that the GJSA is able to hold trials each year to select squad members
to represent the county.
