County Girls on the Road to National Success

REPORTS:

Gloucestershire Inter-County 2010-2011 Season

Gloucestershire Girls County Squash Teams have achieved unprecedented success in The England Squash National Team competition this year, reaching the Finals in all the age groups! Not only is it a first for Gloucestershire, no other county is represented in all 4 Finals.

The Teams played 2 legs in October and January.
The U19 Team ( Rebecca Quinney, Ellie Lake, Emily Penkett, Sammy Blundell, Ellie Hewer, Maddie Penkett) beat Devon and Surrey, losing out only by a game to Essex, to make the Final. Last Year they finished Runners up and this year they are hoping to go one better.
The U17 Team (Ellie Lake, Kip Quinney, Florrie Smith, Jade Rothman, Maddi Payne) had convincing wins over Sussex and Surrey and despite a narrow loss to SE Wales, deservedly qualified.,
The U15 Team (Kip Quinney, Elin Jones, Florrie Smith Amber Peacey, Jade Rothman) fought hard to beat Hertfordshire, Warwickshire and Surrey.
Last but definitely not least were the U13s (Elin Jones, Amber Peacey, Carys Jones, Freya Lane) won their tie convincingly without dropping a game. They stand a great chance of winning the title.
Carys Jones from the U13 Team was thrilled with their win and said “We all played our best. Squash keeps you fit and is fun. I’ve made lots of friends from all over the country”

The Final will be held in Lilleshall and Surrey in March.

The girls play at clubs all over the county, and come from a wide range of schools ( Bournside, Balcarras, Cleeve, Pates, Stroud High, Tewksbury and Wycliffe).

The County is always looking for new players of all standards and it would seem there is not a better time to start! Look out for the new website which will be up and running shortly. In the meantime contact Amanda Coldicott (Chair) 01452 840737 or Sophie Lane (Girls Development/East Glos Club  Coach) for your nearest clubs.
